How Ibogaine treatment worksIbogaine is known to be one of the most powerful psychedelics found to date and has been awarded multiple properties, including being a potent and effective switch from addiction to opiates and other drugs such as cocaine and alcohol. It does this by significantly reducing the symptoms of withdrawal and cravings. All of the above is achieved by taking only a single dose that must be carefully calculated and administered and supervised by highly trained medical staff.
Ibogaine produces important effects and changes in brain biology and this translates into multiple benefits for the patient or the person being treated with ibogaine. No adverse effects have been reported because of these changes.
The wide range of benefits and effects include:
- Regulation of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin, these molecules are involved in mood, depression, etc.
- Interruption of cravings and supports abstinence leading no desire to continue drug consumption
- Reduces pain from opiate withdrawals making it highly effective for opioid treatment
- Supports alcohol addiction and it's been shown to be very effective in the rehabilitation treatment for patients who use alcohol.
The process of patient selection and treatment with ibogaine is very meticulous and can be summarized in three phases:
Phase 1: comprehensive medical assessment.Patients are evaluated by our cardiologist who has experience working with ibogaine and its effects on the heart. Laboratory studies will give us an assessment of the patients condition, we will perform a complete biochemical profile (renal function, liver function, electrolytes, blood lipid profile, etc.). Complete blood count. Drug screening. We will also run tests with a 12-lead electrocardiogram, an echocardiogram, and a complete physical examination.
Phase 2: Psychological, emotional and spiritual stabilization and support. In this phase the patients are physically stabilized with an appropriate diet. Patients addicted to opiates will not be able to continue to use drugs and instead will remain stable with oral doses of morphine administered by a doctor. The use of morphine is preferred because patients respond very well to it and its half-life is short (approximately 6 hrs). A short half-life is important because prior to the ibogaine treatment, the patient must be without effect of opiates, we achieve this by administering morphine 6 to 8 hrs prior to ibogaine treatment.
Patients are introduced to their coach to start discussing the emotional aspects of their addiction. The program will include activities designed by our team of psychologists and counselors.
Phase 3: TreatmentTo provide the safest environment possible, all treatments are performed in our hospital where patients will be under the care of our doctor and nurses who are available for any emergencies.
Before, during and after treatment, patients vitals are monitored by our medical staff who has extensive experience working with ibogaine patients. We monitor cardiac electrical activity, cardiac rhythm and frequency, percentage of oxygen in the blood, etc.
The doctor will determine the appropriate dosage of ibogaine for each patient. Most patients receive 3 or 4 ibogaine capsules, each capsule is administered 30 to 40 minutes of each other, this is known as the Flow Dose. Before this happens, the patients will take a Test Dose, a very small dose of ibogaine to assess any possible allergies to the medicine.
Once the Flow Dosage is administered, the patient will begin to have their experience that usually lasts 6-8 hrs. During this time, the patient will experience the most intense effects of the medicine, they might encounter visions, sounds, etc., all aimed at helping the patient face their problems, traumas and addictions.
After the effects of the Flow Dose expire, the next phase, the Gray Day occurs within 12-24 hours after the medicine is taken. This phase may present insomnia, anxiety, extreme fatigue. This is only temporary and the patient is taken care of by medical personnel to minimize any discomfort. Because the treatment with ibogaine can present complications, it is important to have an adequate specialized medical personnel and equipment to guarantee the safety of the patient. Our patients are supervised and assisted at all times.
